Given the facr that hotels are very expensive in Myanmar this is a good option to save some money...although you still paying more than the value of it. Rooms smell to humidity and the building is old itself. On the good side you are steps away from the Sule stupa and a taxi for the other sights.

The hotel was in the middle of lively Yangon with markets, tea houses and temples just around the corner. The room was small but clean and it had airconditioning. The staff was very friendly and bustickets were available at the service desk.

I stayed in May Shan several times because of its central location, easy to find restaurants nearby and easy to get a taxi. Rooms are very small, some without windows, but clean and if a bed is the only thing you need, it will be fine.

Convenient Central Home Base

We used the May Shan as our home base as we were travelling in several directions radiating out from Yangon. We stayed a total of 4 times. The rooms were small and I wouldn't recommend one without a window. The most important thing was that they were clean. So what if water spread across the bathroom floor when showering - it happens in overpriced establishment in Australia too. Breakfast was adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a big smiling "You're back" each time we returned.
