    Fabulous, Intimate Experience”

We were impressed from the moment we pulled up to Botlierskop. Kind, attentive workers greeted us and welcomed us with sparkling wine while they transported our luggage to our luxury tent. Excursions were offered (we had already booked ours), and then we were escorted to our room via golf cart. Note for children: hang on as the short drive is sometimes steep. Our morning drive was great, and we just called the front desk for a ride over to meet our group. Loved the outdoor shower (keep your eyes peeled for brightly colored frogs or other wild life that you may spot), and the oversized tub. We heard monkeys at night and woke up to giraffes eating fairly close to our room. Our morning drive was great, and we just called the front desk for a ride over to meet our group. Our game drive guide, Marco, did a wonderful job and answered any question that was thrown at him. Our luggage was already packed in our car for us by the time we returned from the game drive and check-out was a breeze! We enjoyed a wonderful buffet dinner (they reserve your table under your room number unless you notify them otherwise). Buffet including a soup, appetizer, palette cleanser, salad bar, variety of meats including crocodile, eland, beef, kudu.

    Great seeing the wildlife!”

    1. Upscale safari tent rooms 2. Excellent safari guide 3. Lovely horses for group ride

It was a wonderful stay! It isn't like a big safari as the reserve has a limited land. They know exactly how many large animals there are, but still have to find them as they roam freely, except for the lions. The lions are keep in a separate area to protect the other animals. Breakfast was good. Eggs cooked as requested. The buffet dinner was very nice although we personaly prefer table service. The was a great selection of fish, meat and game that they grilled to your choice. Lovely desserts. Our tent rooms were quite far from the dining room/lodge. They had golf carts available to transport you, but the carts failed to show up a few times. We walked rather than miss the activity we had signed up for. Every activity as in safari, horseback riding, watching the cubs being fed had an addition cost which definitely added up.We went on their cat walk which was amazing. We were transported to another location of the reserve where a group of 6 of us walked for an hour of two with a lion and lioness, three care takers and a guide. They took many photographs of the individuals and couples with their own cameras. Fantastic!

Although there was a minor mix up with our booking on arrival this was quickly resolved and we had a lovely stay at Botlierskop. There is not a large amount of game to see but all the "Big 4" animal are there.

    Good but was expecting more”

We had gone to 2 private safari's on our trip (Buffelsdrift and Botlierskop) and unfortunately this one fell short on a few occasions. Upon our arrival, you could tell the staff took great care to make you feel at home, however, we were given so much wrong information which was very frustrating and spent a lot of time having to speak to the manager to get the right information. We really didn't feel the staff were trained up properly and were constantly being told "I don't know" on quite simple questions (cost of breakfast). Aside from this the grounds are beautiful and the experience is really lovely. We were in one of the Manor House rooms down the bottom on the park. The room was OK, but we really enjoyed the infinity pool on the plains where zebra and wildebeest were constantly moving around. The horseback safari was great, we went right up to the rhino's which was slightly nerve wracking but really special. The spa I would say to avoid - quite dirty and basic.

Fabulous Accom on the pricey side”

Game Drive, Cat Walk, Deluxe Tent

Once finally found (which took effort) we thought the location was fabulous - the property is generally very (African) up-market and most charming. The tented accom was lovely with a huge bed, open-sky shower and big front verandah with comfy furniture to lie back and watch the animals wander around. You park at reception & ferried around by golf cart vehicles and there's also a little rope-pull raft to get across the little lake. A resident tortoise visited us several and other animals (eland, nyala, zebra, rhino, warthog, monkeys) visible from our tent. Only criticism was the night noise level of the birds - so loud and piercing that I needed ear plugs. Went on a game drive the 1st morning & saw many animals including a male & female lion feeding (they're in a separate area & fed by staff - they don't hunt the other animals) The up-side of a super large zoo is that you can find animals fairly easily without having to hunt all day & find little, which sometimes can happen in the true wild. On the 2nd morning we did the 'cat walk' - an hour long walk with the lions - no leashes, just 3 handlers & a guide - professionally run & got many photos posed with the 2 females, one a white lion (very touristy I know!) Buffet breakfast was great, but was disappointed it wasn't included in our very expensive room rate (even water was charged for separately). The dinner was OK - soup and starters served at the table were excellent - but main course has to be queued for, which I didn't wish to do. The first night we had bought picnic items from the nearest town (not close) and had an in-room picnic and an early night - that's not a bad option. We certainly enjoyed the overall experience; there were many other options that we didn't explore - elephant rides, horse riding, fishing (catch and release), kayaking - maybe next time!

    Fabulous (if somewhat pricey stay)”

Road signage could have been a bit better and the off track approach needs driving with care. Once there, the place is magic. Beautiful surroundings and excellent staff. We booked room only and then added extras. The weather wasn’t brilliant so it turned out to be a wise decision. Game drive was eventful with the truck skidding off into a stream but we rescued fairly quickly (before the wild life found us!). The game drives are organised so you only see two if the big five in the morning and two in the afternoon which is slightly disingenuous as they aren’t cheap! Even so, the overall experience was great and they are working to improve the facilities with a spa and gym recently added.

Very nice and professional staff at game drives and outside activities. Especially Rico has a huge knowledge and is able to give the visitors a real insight in wildlife. There are som new waiters who are not really professional and the excuse I’m new here does not count if you have the feeling that he doesn’t take the job seriously. Room mates are excellent and the cleanliness is outstanding. It is a place to come back and to promote to friends.

What a stunning & beautifully designed place this is! We stayed in a luxury tent! Everything, absolutely everyhting is very well thought through! the dining / breakfast atmosphere, the amenities of the luxury tent included a bed heating! The tent was designed like in an Out of Africa movie! It was our first game drive and we loved it. People who saw the Kruger before where disappointed but we really thought it was a very good beginners experience. The smaller animals like impalas where everywhere on the ground. I will definitely come back one day! The staff went over backwards. Really kind and with the heart on the right place. One of my best travel lifetime experiences every.

We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. The surroundings was beautiful and we enjoyed the openness and proximity to the wild animals. We really felt the owners vision for the reserve in the overall attention to detail. We were made to feel welcome and the attentiveness of the staff was wonderful. The food and SPA was outstanding. I would however recommend that the laundry area be move away from the guest area of the Manor House as the noise levels can be disruptive especially lying on the deck at the pool area.

Activitys, while we traveled around South Africa we stayed here and were able experience walking with lions and riding elephants, tented was great, private with excellent bathroom

Very friendly staff, lovely location, great activitys to choose from, bathroom amazinging. Stayed here two nights in September, room was a bit cold at night, but was expecting that as had read it in review from other guests, great experience staying in a tent, however we were very close to hotel and could here 4x4s in the morning around 6.30. Common sence would tell you, you are staying in a tent that there will be no telly, however I hadn't thought of that, (bring a book) food lovely and extremely tasty, but only had full meal option (soup, starters, mains, desert) we were FULL. We're very luck had great weather and experienced walking with lions and riding elephants which I would recommend everyone to do

    Beautifully designed reserve”

Beautiful interior, great food, great views

We loved staying here, beautifully designed reserve. The food was amazing and the cocktails. We had a great time on the game drives. The pools could do with a good clean though.

    Exceptional”

Very nice place for holiday in the bush but not good for bird and animal photographers as you are put on to game vehicles with little children and general public.

    Amazing stay”

    Hotel terrace, food, design

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel and the rooms are so beautiful designed. Especially the hotel terrace with the view and dining room. The food was awesome. We liked the pool although it was quite cold, but you can watch wild beasts, Zebras and wild horses while Swimming. One negative Point not on the hotel, but on their attractions: We really did not like the Lion walk and the guided Safari as it seems like the animals are more or less in a zoo.

Amazing location, saw everything we wanted to see ”

Pool was perfect, tents were great, location amazing.

When we arrived we thought the place was amazing, we sat in the terrace area and had some drinks over looking the mountains. The tents were great tastefully decorated and very well equipped. (prob not best for light sleepers as the wildlife is noisy especially the monkeys!)We did an afternoon game drive which is great for seeing a wide variety if animals Inc big 5 and giraffes, we were quite happy with this as we wanted to see them but didn't have time to do afew day safari. The only room which let the place down was the dining hall which is a little bit naf the food is good but we had a lot better elsewhere. The infinity pool was perfect with stunning views. Overall we would stay again but 2 nights I think is plenty as it gets a little bit jurrasic park!!

Bad experience never to be repeated!”

Our 40 year wedding anniversary celebration turned sour. Water in the accommodation was not palatable and had a strange taste. No free water was supplied for drinking purposes! The lodge was doing alterations and workers were along the pathways doing VERY NOISY JOBS WITH ANGLE GRINDERS AND HEAVY MACHINERY WORKING AROUND THE TENTS. Being woken up in the morning by angle grinders and a loader is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! The manager tried to pacify us with Spa vouchers which was worthless as we were going on a game drive leaving early the following morning. Lighting in the chalet at the toilet was also nonexistant. The temperature in the tent was extremely cold and the airconditioner not effective. We had a pleasing game drive with Jade, he was very knowledgable, interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed his company.
