A wonderful experience with great food”
we stayed 2 nights with chhotaram prajapat and his family and would have happily stayed longer if we had had the time. the family was very friendly and welcoming and eager to make sure we had everything we needed. the food, which is cooked over an open fire by the host's mother, was delicious, fresh, and plentiful--just imagine eating chapatis straight off the skillet and drinking hot masala chai with milk from the family cow. yum! the traditional hut we slept in has an attached western bathroom—the room and bathroom were both quite clean and the bed was comfortable. being about 30 km outside jodhpur, it was quiet, peaceful, and relaxing--we watched the sunset over the desert from the roof of the house and ate dinner out under the stars. all that and the chance to talk with our host--who speaks english well--about the lives and customs of his family, other villagers, and india in general made this the most memorable part of our trip. the members of the family are dhurrie (rug) weavers, and their house is also the collection point for the rugs made by other members of the dhurrie weaving cooperative they belong to, so there is the opportunity to see their looms, the weaving, and the finished rugs (and to purchase some if you want). our host picked us up at the airport when we arrived in jodhpur and took us back to the city after our stay without additional charge. the family also runs village safaris by jeep to see wildlife, bishnoi villages, area temples and monuments, and local crafts. we took the full day tour, and it was very enjoyable. if you want to feel that you are in india, and not just seeing india, i highly recommend this place where you will be treated like an especially honored family member.

Great authentic village experience”
My wife and I thouroughly enjoyed staying with Chhotaram and his family. From the moment we first arrived and were greeted warmly by his wife and sister-in-law, we were made to feel like part of the family. We spent time exploring the surrounding village, Jodhpur and beyond with Chhotaram and his brothers, and had some of our favorite experiences in India. The room was nice with a comfortable bed and Western style bathroom, and the fact that it is all in a traditional mud hut adds to the charm. Overall, highly recommended!

A rich experience”
At Chhotaram's, the most valuable experience you can find is a warmth and respect from the family. As a place it offers spacious rooms, decent hygiene, clean towels, huge bathrooms, clean bedsheets, 24x7 hot water, clean surroundings and ample parking space. The road to salawas from Jodhpur is ok. They served local food, which was truly organic and everything we had was tasty. For dinner we had cauliflower, ker sangari (which costs more than 1200 rs kgs was served unlimited), dal and baajre ki roti and for breakfast there was methi paratha and poha. We also did a bishnoi village safari, which was an amazing experience with a sighting of blackbucks, nil gai (blue bull), hundreds of peacocks and other migratory birds. If visiting Jodhpur do spend at least a night here and dont miss the safari.

Taste of Rajasthan”
Got a taste of real rural life in Salawas, Rajasthan. Chhotaram ji and his wife are wonderful hosts. They provided delicious home cooked meals and took us for village and wildlife safari. He also helped us purchase authentic Rajasthani handlooms. This was truly an unique experience for us

Nothing but gratitude for this experience!”
I spent one night at Chhotaram's homestay in August as a solo female traveler. From the moment I was dropped off by my driver and greeted by Chhoto's mother and father, I felt welcomed by and at home with this family. You can read about the accommodations (simple, yet very clean), the activities (well organized and very interesting), as well as the food (homemade and delicious!), in others' reviews, but for me, the best part of this homestay was interacting with this wonderful family. I was especially interested in hearing their story, whether it was about how the homestay came to be, the village dhurry cooperative that they are part of, or just the way in which they function with 14 extended family members living under the same roof. As I watched Chhoto's parents weaving together early in the morning, I spoke with Chhoto, who was so generous with his time, and answered the many questions I had for him. Quite honestly, I fell in love with this family, the way they work hard, and are honest and genuinely kind in dealing with each other and their guests. I left with wonderful memories, fantastic images and one handwoven dhurry. I will hopefully be back one day soon, and will leave with more than just one beautiful dhurry next time!

Absolute calm stay - highly recommended”
we stayed two nights at the homestay and it was truly one of the best experiences throughtout our travel around india. we found the family exceptionally kind and attentive. arrived to salawas from new delhi and after the crowded, too much busy city the stay here in the beautiful country-side was absolutely refreshing both for the body and the soul. in the authentic huts we found comfort, clean rooms and delicious food. felt at all times relaxed and appreciate the helpfulness of our host. also went for a village safari which, for us europeans, was surely a genuine experience. had we missed this stay, our travel would have meant much less in its value!

FANTASTIC STAY”
A group of 10 of us stayed with Chohotaram and his family for only two nights. It was the favorite part of our India trip. Great food and great experience. The rooms are humble but very comfortable. Breakfast each morning was so delicious. We had Chhotaram take us on a village tour and out to the Jain temple. He also helped us arrange tranportation for the next few days at a great price. To top it off, we ran into some trouble later in our trip and we called Chotaram for help! We really trusted him and had a great experience.

Great experience”
The owners of this homestay are providing something really special by opening their home to visitors and sweeping them along for the ride as they go about their daily lives. Our host picked us up from the train station in Jodhpur and from that moment seemed to be completely focussed on making sure we had the best time and experience possible. The food was prepared over a fire on the floor was simple yet delicious and among the best meals we've had in India. The accommodation is in round, mud and cow dung thatched huts that are clean and comfortable without being too fancy in order to stay as close as possible to their traditions. This a family of weavers who also run the local weaving cooperative (Pukhraj durry udhyog), so not only can you see dhurries being made by the family, but you can also see (and buy) those from the cooperative as well. India is a country of villages so this was a wonderful opportunity to get off the tourist trail of cities, palaces and forts for a short time to see and experience village life with a warm and welcoming family.

A warm welcome and interesting experience. ”
I’m so glad we made the trip out to Salawas. I wasn’t sure about it but the reviews convinced me and like everyone else, I’m glad I did. It was so different from everything else we did on our India trip. It was lovely to be welcomed by this family, to enjoy the food, to sit cross legged on the floor and eat with them. To see the food prepared and even lend a hand. The trip out in the jeep to the Bishnoi, pottery and textiles places was interesting and enjoyable. It was also fascinating to see a demonstration of the dhurry weaving. There is always a degree of commercialism in these activities but at no point did we feel at all pressured to buy or awkward for not buying. We would definitely recommend a trip out to this property to have a taste of how ordinary people live.

Welcoming family home stay”
we stayed in this hotel for one night. it is one hour ride from the clock tower or city center. either by bus (last run at 6:30) or by jeep from the home manager (rp) each way. the hotel choice is a great experience for those who wants to escape from the bustling indian cities and wants a basic and simple retreat. family is really welcoming and gentle, not pushing to sell anything but just trying to help u having a comfortable staying. they also have a great collection of original handmade rugs. i would recommend it for those who stay more than one night in jodhpur... and have more time to spend also in safari or jeep ride. if time is short i would suggest to stay in the city center.

True to the name, and service with a heart”
Although about 20 km from Jodhpur Railway Station, the prompt pick-up and drop service makes the extra journey enjoyable. Amidst a fresh rural setting, it gives you a vivid picture of village life in Rajasthan, complete with the cowshed, bajri ki roti, fresh milk and dahi, the pickles, and to top it all, the simple but very warm welcome extended by the whole family. In fact, in a few hours, you feel like being a part of the Prajapat family. The hut rooms are cosy and comfortable enough for a couple only. The rooms in the first floor are ok for a bigger family, but a few minor details like cloth hangers, hanging space in toilets, a small mirror etc would make the service more complete. We initially felt very embarrassed that the head of the family is taking us on a day-long tour of Jodhpur, but then realised how lucky we were to have this patriarch guide us through to make it a memorable city tour. Overall it was a unique, memorable and nice experience which gives you a glimpse in the daily life of our India.

Nice homestay with very comfortable accomodation”
I stayed at this homestay for 2 nights. I was welcomes with a traditional welcome when I arrived. I was able to help the family prepare dinner and the food was amazing. On the second day I had a very bad headache from all the smoke in the kitchen, there is little ventilation so if you easily get light headed, sit outside when eating dinner. The mud huts were great and I had the best sleep. During the day, I didn't go on the village safari because I think it's overpriced, and it's difficult to get I to Jodhpur unless you catch the local bus. But their local village is nice to walk around and the sunset point is beautiful.

The best part of our India trip!”
Chhotaram's homestay was such a special experience. We found the place last minute and I am SO glad we did!!! It really rounded out our experience in India. His family is so sweet and they are amazing cooks. We had the best time getting to know them, learning about their village and the crafts, and exploring in the safari tour. We would love to visit again!

A Good Experience”
The homestay prpvides one with a good experience of village life in India. The host and the entire family was most gracious, informative, helpful and welcoming. I missed experiencing the village safari which I believed would have been an unforgettable one as I stayed only for a night. Would be better for one to stay 2N/3D here.

A real privilege”
This is an extraordinary place to say. Chhotu and the whole family genuinely welcome you to join them in their daily life. The walks and trips were excellent, and all arrangements made without fuss. The 'huts' were basic but charming. Predictably, the other guests are both enjoyable to be with, and a great source of information for travelling. Believe the reviews about this place!
