It is a little hard to locate the hostel; it takes time and effort to reach it as it is on a slope. The staff are helpful and informative; some speak Engish. The dorms are not too big with 9 bunk beds. The room has big lockers to store lugguage. There are small lockers in the lounge next to the reception. You need to have your own locks for big lockers and ask for a key for the small one. Breakfast is complimentary and comprises a vareity of fruits and foods. Given the high cost of living in Rio, this is certainly a PLUS.

This is my favourite hostel I've ever stayed in. I was there quite a while, ten nights, and the staff really made me feel like part of the family. They helped me with the research I was doing in curitiba, invited me to things, and I joined in with the family dinner on Mondays. Location is good, very close to shopping curitiba, easy to get around. And pepe the dog is great!

Geckos is a typical hostel, I've stayed in better BUT I've certainly stayed in a lot worse. It's clean, the staff is very helpful and friendly, probably some of the most helpful I've found in awhile. Breakfast is all you can eat and there's fruit, cereal, tea/coffee, bread, and ham and cheese. Far more options than most places give and again, all you can eat! The location is good for downtown and it's easy enough to hop the bus to the beaches. It's a very social hostel which is great and I've heard on the weekends it can get rowdy. Like most hostels the facilities could use some help/fixing, but overall it's great and I'd stay here again.

I booked the 15 people dorm on Agoda.com when i saw it was going on a very good deal. I initially had expected it to be ok for the price that I was paying but it was a lot worse than I thought.I was allocated to the room in the basement. When I saw the room, there were rubbish and personal belonging strewn on over the floor. No housekeeping for a few days maybe. What irked me the most was that there wasn't any ventilation in the room at all. Sure, it was cold at night, but the windows were perpetually closed and the air conditioner wasn't working (I tried). So every night we just left the door to the room open (so much for security). Luckily the people in the dorm were mostly nice and friendly. One hung his wet clothings above me when he couldn't find a clothes rack. It was probably dripping all night. Maybe the hostel could invest in one clothes rack for a 15 people dorm? I liked the restroom which had 2 cubicles for showering and 2 toilets.They were cleaned almost everyday. For those carrying heavy luggage, it is not recommended because the route from the Paradiso Subway station is full of steps and hills. Despite it being a 10/15min walk, it could be torturous for those who are not travelling light.

The hostel was not located in the historical center, but there is an easy way to go there by bus and the beaches are close by walking 30min. The hostel was absolutely clean, never saw such a clean hostel kitchen before. It ws very modern and decorated with little nice details. The stuff is helpfull, but you had to ask for it. The breakfeast was simple, but sufficient. Would defenitely come back to this hostel!

I enjoyed my stay at the Cosmopolitan. For a budget hostel, it offered everything necessary as a base to visit Recife and Olinda. The staff was pleasant and helpful with maps and questions. The breakfast was a lovely spread with fresh squeezed tropical juices, homemade cakes,fruit, sandwiches and breads. The grounds are set in a small garden with pet rabbits, there is a central lounge with tv, the rooms have ac at night and the location is is very near the beautiful Boa Viagim beach. There was high speed internet, and tv in the lounge as well as a kitchen available to cook. My only complaint is that the lockers provided could be easily broken into with a screwdriver. Not that secure. All things considered, great value for the price.

We booked a double room with private bathroom, but we also got to enjoy the hostel atmoshphere wich was great. Jennifer was always happy to help with tips, advice, tour reservstions, you name it. She really made our stay really great and smooth. The room was basic but really clean! Although not on the main street, the hostel is 1 or 2 blocks away from the bus station, which in my opinion is better than the main street. Supermarket also close by. I totally recomend this hostel!

The couple that owns the hostel is very sweet! They don't speak English but do you know a little Spanish you can communicate a bit. Breakfast is fruit, sandwiches, coffe, juice and yogurt. Everything is walking distance in Paraty but this hostel seems to be in the middle of it all. There weren't very many people at all when I stayed but if it was a busy season the rooms would've felt a lot more crowded. Nice place if you're staying for a night or 2!

The friendly welcome at the hostel is great! No matter when you arrive, you can lock the luggage in a safe room until you can check in the room. Although the rooms were quite small - but that's normal in Rio for that price - the stay there was very very nice! The whole hostel was very clean (also very very clean toilet), and everybody (included cleaning staff) tried everything to make the stay as wonderful as possible! I felt like being in a big family! The tours they are offering in the hostel are very nice and you won't get them cheaper anywhere else. The hostel is a great place to meet people from all over the world. That part of Ipanema was the best choice! Great location!

We stayed in a private double room. The room and bathroom were okay but on the small size. There was a refrigerator and a fan but it wasn't very powerful so we found the room very hot and stuffy. The bed sheets didn't fit properly and came off everytime you turned over. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially in emails before arrival. The room was not cleaned each day properly and the hostel was noisy at night. We had to ask the drunken guests to be quiet - the night staff should have done this. That said, it was a good price and the dorm rooms looked okay. Good wifi.

Pros: I stayed in a 14-bed dorm room but I was alone the whole time I stayed. Breakfast is one of the best/generous offered in the area. I had a really bad asthma attack my 2nd night at the hostel and Cacaia took care of me like a mom - bringing hot chai latte, water, breakfast and even lunch in bed along with extra pillows and blankets... even her own scarf. She and her husband took turns checking in on me till midnight for 2 days. I would not have recovered so fast if not for their kindness. You can't get that kind of "service"/care from big hotels or party hostels in town. Cons:The hostel is about 10-15 mins walk to Lapa which isn't bad but being in Sta. Teresa, it means a steep uphill climb.
