Too warm in room”
The location of this hotel is good. Central to most tourist sites. Walkable within 10-15 mins. The train station was only 3 minutes away. The issue we had was the room temperature. It was way too warm. We had the window open all day and night. We called maintenance who said they'll adjust it but we felt no change. The other issue is the bed configuration. Apparently 90% of German hotels have twin beds unless it's the upgraded room to a King. It wasn't a deal breaker but I wish we knew it was a twin bed even though we specifically asked for a double.

Mediocre Berlin”
I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights and wish I'd stayed somewhere else. I'll give a brief overview below. Pros -clean -centrally located Cons -Extremely rude staff: the woman that checked me in was very rude and dismissive towards me. Spoke to me in such a patronising way. -Rude staff (x2): I came back one night a little late (1am) and the staff on reception stared at me like I was something on the bottom of their shoes and said "can I help?". Erm, no? -Room facilities: Not even a kettle? -Room deco: furniture was kinda dated and not what I'd expect from a 4.5* hotel, the flooring was some kind of plastic? V strange. -Room service knocks on your door every 15 minutes after 9am. (Not great if you want to lay in.) Overall, def would not stay at this hotel again. I booked it based off of the positive reviews - so just thought I'd share my experience so that you can get a more balanced opinion on the hotel before you book.

Expensive without anything”
No coffee machine, half of the hotel views the loud busy road, this place isn't worth the money...

No kettle, no free water...”
They sell a room. That's it. So I can't really complain...besides there are plenty of other choices around.

Great location, great stay”
We were delighted with our stay at the Melia and with the fantastic rate we found on agoda. I shared a room with an 18-year-old who received the trip as a graduation gift from her uncle, who stayed in a second room. For 2 adults the room was adequately sized, not overly generous but just fine. Our stay was quiet, we never heard a sound from the elevator right across the hall (which worried me at first), and cleanliness was impeccable. The standard room is not sized to spend a lot of time in, but in Berlin that's unlikely anyway. Staff members were all courteous and helpful. We never tried the hotel breakfast, which seemed inordinately priced, but found a great breakfast spot just around the corner on the river, Guten Morgen Franz. And one of the best coffeehouses in Berlin is a 10-minute walk away and serves fine breakfasts: Kaffee Einstein on Unter den Linden. The Melia also has a number of good choices for nice restaurants or quick eats, all within a 5-10 minute walk. In short, being so close to a major transit hub (Friedrichstrasse Station), it was almost hard to believe the Melia was such an oasis of comfort and understated style. One note: Don't count on being able to check in before the official 3 p.m.

Melia Berlin”
When searching for a hotel in the center of Berlin, the Melia is very highly recommended. The front desk staff was very courteous, friendly, multi-lingual, and able to answer myriad questions. The room was quite comfortable with soundproofed walls. The bathroom was very fine. The only word of caution is that a person must insert the room key in the switch next to the door to get the lights to work. I have stayed in another hotel where that feature was present, but my traveling companions were baffled by the lack of lights. I recommend Melia Berlin very highly.

Great Stay @ the Melia Berlin!”
Melia Berlin is an excellent choice for a short getaway. Its convenient location, the friendly staff who went out of their way to accomodate all our requests, the convenient gym and restaurants on site (don't miss the tapas bar with live music on tuesdays & thursdays!), the great views, make it one of the top choices for accomodation in Berlin. Highly recommended!!!

First timer, but great impression”
first time in Berlin, excellent hotel, very close to Tube and Train stations, located well for many of the sights and close enough to travel to the others without any hassle. No kettle or irons in the room however, not many Brits will be pleased about that! Otherwise cannot fault the whole Melia hotel experience. I'd definitely recommend and return.

Another lovely visit”
This was our second visit. We chose the Melia Hotel, because it has comfortable, very clean rooms, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the breakfast is freshly prepared with a variety of foods for all tastes. It is in walking distance from several Christmas Markets and close to the train station Friedrichstrasse. We had bought the travel ticket 'Berlin Welcome Card' at the airport and this way could jump on and of trains to go all over town like to Potsdam, the Pfauen Insel and the 'Gardens of the World'.

€170 for half a load of washing”
I arrived very tired and still unwell & needing fresh clothes, I knew a hotel would charge more than I could do myself, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine such a small amount could incur such an outrageous charge. Asked at reception re laundry service, & was told I could take there or have picked up from my room - no mention of a form. Opted for latter, housekeeping came & asked for form & when I said I didn't know there was one, she told me it was in the cupboard. I said I would fill it in, she said not to worry she would, I tried again but she insisted she would do it for me, I thought she was being nice. I did look at form after she left but it was in German & I couldn't understand it anyway. I should have asked the price. I thought it would be something stupid like 50euros- not 170! Spoiled my stay in Berlin, & Germany, & probably my entire time in Europe just because every time I have to deny myself something to do, or buy, I cannot help but think of Melia Berlin.

Excellent Hotel”
melia berlin is situated just at one end of friederichstrasse, one of the main shopping streets in berlin. walk all the way down the shopping district to reach checkpoint charlie. the u/s bahn is just a 2 minute walk away, and the brandenburg gate and reichstag is only 1 to 2 stops away. the museum island is within easy walking distance as well. all in all we hardly spent any money on transport! average to above-average room, what you'd expect in a 4-star hotel. breakfast not included was the only con.

Excellent”
When bookings are made to stay at the Melia,, especially by people from overseas, it would be wise to ask these guests what their bedding requirements are, and for the hotel to accomodate these requests on the day the guest arrives. Many people around the world do not like or use Doonas. If I were to use the Melia again, I would want a top and bottom sheet and blankets to suit ( depending on the time of year, possibly one thin one in milder weather and up to three in mid winter). When I asked for blankets, the staff indicated a total degree of ignorance as to what a blanket is, and we had to settle for a thin single doona, which was not at all satisfactory. A good nights sleep is very important, especially when sleeping in a strange bed, so all attempts must be made to make this possible. It must be obvious that a guest who sleeps well will always return. The matress was very good A wider variety of pillows for selection would also be very sensible, e.g. being able to select hardness and thickness. Room size was good and bathroom good, and all other facilities as indicated above

Great location, Great Rooms, Great Service ”
I would definatly recommend this hotel - brilliant location - so many places within walking distance but train station nearly opposite so very easy to get about the city. We didn't have breakfast as had already learnt it was quite expensive but that didn't cause us a problem as there were plentiful cafes/bars to eat out. Rooms were excellent - bedding excellent - and we were abit demanding asking for Iron/kettle/extra linen etc.. and all came within minutes of asking Would definately use hotel again when next in Berlin

Exceptional”
My Partner and I decided to head to Berlin for the Christmas markets (highly recommended). The hotel staff were perfect, always on hand to help and very good with language barriers. The view over the river with the Juliette balcony doors added a little something extra to our trip. I certainly would visit The Malia Hotel again on our next trip to berlin!!
