First-rate, genuine generosity”
Varanasi was my first destination in India and as a solo female traveler I was ready to be overwhelmed. Shiva's was my haven- and the kindness and generosity I received there would rank it my best accommodation experience to date. Shiva is a lovely, open man who you can learn many things from. He always has time for his guests. The rooms are spotless and the location is genial. I came home later one night after a concert and felt completly safe, and I knew if I didn't- Shiva was just a phone call away. I had the best time!

Great stay in Varanasi”
Staying in Shiva Guest House was great value for money. It's located just near Ganga and main ghats, view from roof was amazing. Rooms are basic room, not luxyry but enough for normal budget. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Best we've found in India so far”
Stayed 2 nights only. Had dinner there both times, really good home cooked food. Good location close to main ghat (arriving from ghat side is easiest). Shiva is a very friendly host

Great stay in Varanasi”
We had a great stay. We originally planned to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying for 5! The staff are very friendly, helpful and genuine. You're made to feel part of the family. The location is great. Very central but not too noisy with great access the the ghats. If you've got the lonely planet, the location of the Munshi ghat is wrong. To find Shiva's, walk south from the main ghat along the river for maximum two minutes and you'll see 'Munshi ghat' written in big black letters on the wall. Walk up the steep stair case and you'll find the hostel easily.

Excellent position, good food, small room”
Excellent position in from of Mushi Ghat, next to the Main Ghat. Very close to the excellent Baba Lassi and the International Music School which organises sitar and flute concerts. Very small room, a bit cold in January, but with friendly staff and good rooftop restaurant with a very nice view.

Shiva good for me”
I am a retired news photographer and had wished for more than 15 years to journey to Varanasi. Shiva and brother Kalish and family there were wonderful to me, helping arrange trips and meals.The rooftop meals were excellent as was the company.

The best place in Varanasi!”
Great location... 2 min walking from main ghat but far enough to be a calm place. Excellent food at a very good price in the rooftop. Very clean and organized. Owners are so pleasant and always trying to help. You will eant to stay longer, like us!

The Guest house is very good located at the Munshi Ghat. The room and bathroom were clean. The owner are very friendly and helpful. The Highlight is the rooftop with its view over the Ganges.

Quiet retreat away from hussle and bussle”
Stay was great and this accommodation was a nice getaway from the craziness (and the constant beeping) in Varanasi, especially the rooftop area. The accommodation was a little hard to find as tuk tuks can't bring you there so you'd want to have Google maps working or request a pick up (not sure of that's possible).

Great location, great hosts”
Because it's so close to the ghats it was a tiny bit hard to find the first time, but well worth it as everything is only minutes away, and the hosts are awesome. They make great food - i miss the chai and lassi on the roof top!

Close to thé ghats”
Forget the name Maharah suite, that aside this is avery comfortable hotel, room good and clean, bed good. Lots of hot water. Difficult to find when you don't know the city and you have to walk the last few hundred metres through narrow streets, but the owner will come and find you. Less than fives minutes from the main Ghat. Would stay there again

Good guest house with great staff and a nice rooftop resturant”
The Guest house has a good location but a bit tricky to get to first time. The facilities are all working good and the rooms are clean and simple. The staff is helpful and the view from the rooftop resturant over ganges and Varanasi is great!

ok rooms, excellent food, really nice staff”
Our stay was really nice. 1. The rooms are not super clean; like in pretty much all india, the rooms arent impecable. The pillows are really old and a little dusty. 2. Bathrooms are small but ok 3. Food is awesome! You have to wait à little but it's definitely worth it! The Nutella pancakes are crazy good 4. The owner is nice 5. Bunch of stairs but pretty usual in India 6. A little hard to find the place but super well located Overall, we liked it Fair price

Good Budget Accomodation”
Very helpful manager by the name of Kailash. Room was budget quality and on high floor. Cd be a challenge to older folks. Generally good for budget travellers n very near main ghats.

Unedpected”
Dont book it for the room. We didnt get what we saw, which was ok for us but still we booked cause it says balkony (we didnt even had a window to the outside) and all the other things in "room facilities". The restaurant was closed during our stay, the boat trip we booked was nice but we missed the guide who was promised to us by the hostel owner. The internet worked only a few times during the 4 days we were there... But if you dont plan to spend your stay in varansi in the room, you ll have a nice roof top, friendly and good staff trying to make your stay comfortable and it is only a 2 minute walk to the ghats...

it has a little bit difficult to find but room and all of guesthousel is so good. guesthouse not far from riverside just walk about 5 min. the owner is so kind and good family. it's worthy for price. if I have chance, I will back here again :))

Okay stay at Shiva”
Guest house was okay, the bathroom wall doesn't connect all the way to ceiling so you can hear your neighbors bathroom business. We booked a morning boat ride on the Ganges with the guesthouse, they WAY over charged us!!! We went as 2 couples (4 people) and they charged 800R total (400 per couple). You can walk along the river and get a boat ride for 150 - 250R. Very upsetting as we trusted the owners. I would recommend staying somewhere else...plenty of other guesthouses for same price around the area.

Kindest Family Owners”
When I stayed here, I was very very sick from a 24 hour train ride. The owner noted that I was a solo traveler and was sure to check in on me. One time when I was quite faint he made me rice to help me regain strength. It was exactly what I needed. I very much enjoyed my stay. The place was a bit difficult to find, but in a great area. There is not a restaurant on top anymore, but the view up there is lovely, overlooking the Ganges. I would stay there again.
