we enjoyed our stay at the sofitel harbin. its around 15 minutes in a taxi to 'central street' which was about 17 rmb in a taxi, and about 22 rmb to the ice festival. there is a shopping mall right next door (connected) to the hotel with lots of shops, bakeries, mcdonalds etc so even though youre not on top of the tourist attractions, you're not isolated either. we didnt find getting a taxi difficult and they all seemed to know the sofitel. we ate at the hotel, twice for dinner at 'elements' which was a buffet style with asian and western to choose from for 218 rmb pp and we at breakfast, again buffet style for 170 rmb pp with a wide selection. no major complaints and service was very good. reception and consierge were very helpful with smooth check in and check out. and we got a non smoking room on request! a special thank you to bella who came to help us try and swap our faulty camera we purchased at the shopping mall. she came to translate for us without hesitation. even though there are cheaper (obviously) hotels with better location we would stay here again. one thing i would comment on is that the pool requires you to wear a swimming hat which is not advertised pre-stay.

Very comfortable hotel in a central location”
I orginally booked this hotel because I wanted to be located in the area of Harbin that is well known for its shopping. The hotel and the district did not disappoint. My room was very comfortable and the staff were polite and efficient. If you are looking for accommodation in Harbin and are interested in the shopping them this htoel is a great choice.

Within the room: - Great bed with pillow selection and warm bed covers! - Clothes closet was innovative with the doors from hallway to the doors from within the bathroom. - Bathroom was not well designed - shower/bath knobs and shower head were not logically placed and caused much water leakage outside of the shower/bath tub. Outside the room: - hotel lobby was pretty with beautiful flower arrangements. - nice photo gallery exhibition (but could ahve had more info regarding the exhibit). - nice mix and use of funiture styles throughout to represent sofitel and a european feel.

Very good hotel”
The rooms are very nice and comfortable with big bathrooms and wonderful beds.The breakfast buffet is very manifoldig with lots of western food which is hard to find in China at all. Because we went to Harbin for the famous ice festival we hoped to get some maps and information in the hotel - but unfortuanaly they can not provide anything at all. Make sure you get everything printed out before you go.

SOFITEL has a good location, it's nearly by Wanda Plaza. They has a good accommodation. I really LOVE thire Bathtub with red wine bubble (Can request at service center). but the heater not be good as it should will be cuz the weather in the room is a little bit cold. However. in the overall i like this hotel and will be back again. LOVE IT!

Comfy hotel close to Wanda plaza were great restaurants level 5 upstairs . The food was average and disappointing in the hotel even being on a club level . The rooms were nice but you could not control room temperature which were set at around 25 degree which we had to keep opening and closing window . Joseph was very helpful on concierge and help us when needed . Overall we did expect a higher service being a Sofitel Hotel

A Good Hotel, Friendly, yet some issues”
The hotel was good, yet one couple in our group had a horrible room. The sanitation of the bathrooms could use some work. The area is Harbin, which has a few tourist attractions around, yet hardly any English speaking personnel outside the hotel. Due to this, the concierge is required to be used. They were very helpful and good, yet most of the time it didn't work out. This was quite frustrating because this is your only option if you don't speak Russian or Chinese. Many in our group were getting frustrated. The overall service was great in the hotel and it does contain some nice (over priced) shops within it. The worst part of the WHOLE hotel is that there is not any WIFI in the rooms, only a hard line. This is difficult for those of us who utilize wireless devices. There is a business center down in the lobby area, yet you have to pay by the minute to use it. The WIFI is free in the lobby, yet connect is terrible. They really need to work on their internet situation.

The stay was great, staff checked us in at speed, they helped to order a surprise cake for my partner's 4oth birthday. Location is next to a mall which is handy. Ordered breakfast to the room, it was delicious and well presented. Will use Sofitel again.

Worth for money”
My booking through Agoda did not include breakfast but other members of the group booked the same hotel with breakfast at about the same price. We booked the hotel room around the same time but the difference was quite big as separate payment for the breakfast was RMB160 per day per person. The hotel itself was of high standard with good meal in the morning.

Bed, breakfast n bath a winner but otherwise average”
A weekend away with friends to experience Harbin Ice and Snow festival, so a treat spending more than my usual budget on a hotel. Given this, I was a bit disappointed. The hotel is looking a bit jaded and needing a bit of an injection of updating. The rooms are large, bed is really comfy, bath is a blessing, but overall you can see the wear and tear. For a hotel of this size and in this price bracket it would be great to see them do some redecorating. Have to say though that breakfast was a great start to the day. AND totally recommend having one of their hot chocolates - delish.

Decent hotel in a not so great location”
The hotel was fine, but not particularly well suited to winter activities. It's not particularly close to the Ice & Snow World, nor the main shopping drag, nor a lot of other activities, but taxis are very, very inexpensive in Harbin and nothing is really all that far away. Nothing is more than about 20 minutes (activity-wise) from the hotel by taxi. On foot, the area's a bit of a letdown. Don't let that take away from the fact that the staff is very helpful and the overall facilities are clean and well-kept.

A weeklong stay”
Did not get the rooms we initially booked which was the city view of the room. There was some challenges when we tried to book transport from the hotel to pick us up due to language difference, and ended up had to take a taxi from the airport which was very small and uncomfortable. The hotel concierge did assist us when we were there with land tours and was very helpful.

Night shift staff at concierge booked a taxi for me to the airport reassuring taxi ride is safe in Harbin taxi driver arrived on time early in the morning and pretended to be nice and processional until he pulled over in the middle of the way to the airport and got a group of 3 from a hostel on the taxi in order to earn extra money. I was extremely angry and lodge an official complaint to the hotel management but until now there is no official reply. Horrible! my request of a proper airport transit. Clean and cozy rooms ”
Rooms were clean and cozy. Hotel is located next to Wanda Mall. Humidifier was provided in room which was a plus point since we visited during the cold winter. Fruits were also provided during our stay. Restaurants are about 10-15 mins walk away. Overall satisfied stay!

Great hotel, location not as good.”
My girlfriend and I had a good stay at this hotel. You should choose a Luxury Room - the bed is huge and comfortable. I would say for the Ice Festival the location is not so good, and the restaurants close too early, but generally this is a very good choice. Staff are very good and friendly too.

Room is small and it is too dry in the room”
the room is comfortable, but it is too small, and it is too dry for this weather, cannot open air con, i guess it still under winter condition. i guess the price is not worth for the room, too expensive
